Student Council

Student Council

Here at Archway we are always keen to listen to what our students have to say about their experiences. It is important that we listen while they are here and not just when they have left as we believe we can continuously improve our provision. There are always things which staff might not have noticed but which are important from a student’s perspective.

We listen and engage with all students every day but in a formal sense we have two main routes.

Student Voice

Student voice takes place during every review meeting, with parents, outside agencies, the student’s referring school and any other professional involved with the student. It is important that the student is involved with any review, and puts forward ideas which are relevant to them. By giving dedicated time in the review meeting, this aim is met, and the students become more confident in discussing issues and resolutions.

Review meetings occur every 6 weeks, or sooner if a short term placement is in progress. The meetings are led by the student’s tutor and enable an open discussion about progress that has been made and further interventions needed.

Student council

Each Student Rep has been democratically voted for by their peers, as part of the student council, there is a rep from each tutor group.. Student reps are sometimes called upon to represent the school or speak to visitors.

The student council meets formally every half term and the agenda is a combination of staff and student items, the Student Council is supported by Ms Karen Barr

Following the meeting there is feedback into teams and also to staff meeting. It is planned that a student will attend a meeting with Mr Beaumont and the SLT to give this feedback in the future.

The student council works in a democratic way and is a useful means of demonstrating British politics in action and there is often a reference to this!
